SPOTLIGHT:  The Story of George’s Stone

The stone in the stump
THE STONE IN THE STUMP

In 2013 George made a monetary contribution to support ongoing restoration work in Boston’s parish church, St. Botolph’s. His contribution was acknowledged with the engraving of a stone:

GEORGE BROUGH ORGANIST

it says, since he studied with the organist as a boy and practised the organ at St. Botolph’s.

The stone was placed in the church but if you go looking for it you will never find it, for its flat face is secretly concealed by what is sitting firmly on top of it: a massive stone column. Only when that column is removed will his stone and its message be revealed.

Someday, someone will discover it and wonder . . .
